Wichita Northwest’s Ben Heidebrecht – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Hutchison Community College

Ben Heidebrecht of Wichita Northwest was a second team all-city safety his junior year, and hopes to build on his successes for his last year as a Grizzly.

“I am feeling pretty great about the upcoming season,” Heidebrecht said. “Both sides of the ball are looking good this season. I’m excited for my senior year and getting to play in 6A. I’m excited to see what this year has in store for me.”

Heidebrecht spent the offseason training and attending camps, while also preparing for his leadership role on the team.

“I have been training all summer with two great trainers, and trying to make it to as many camps as possible,” Heidebrecht said. “A weakness that I feel I need to improve on is being more of a vocal leader on and off the field.”

While preparing for the upcoming season, Heidebrecht made goals in hopes of achieving them for his last year under the lights.

“First team all-state, defensive player of the year, and to win the state championship,” Heidebrecht said. “Of course the goal is to win, but also to remain focused and strong as a team.”

Heidebrecht plans to continue his athletic and academic career after high school, but is still deciding where.

“My future plans are to hopefully pick up more offers to play ball at the next level,” Heidebrecht said. “As far as the distant future, I am really interested in sports medicine.”
