Q&A with Wichita Northwests Sasha Reid – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

I’d like to do better at maintaining a 3.8 GPA or higher; I take a lot of pride in having good grades and this past semester I slacked a little bit and would like to improve next semester.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

Getting to know my teammates better and the little things we do I cherish a lot. We have morning practices on Wednesday, and before school, we’ll go get breakfast together and I think being able to see their personalities outside of basketball and seeing them as friends has been really refreshing this season.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

Mrs. Bartsch, who is my avid teacher, is my favorite teacher because she connects with the kids beyond school, and she has a way of getting kids to open up to her, and that’s something I’ve been able to take advantage of the past 3 years and has helped me a lot throughout the school.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Going to Pitt-State tournaments during the summer is always so much fun.  It pushes us out of our comfort zone and forces us to build connections with teammates off and on the court, and it’s always fun meeting new teammates during that time.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Aundrea Wilson, who was a senior last year for northwest, made a big impact on me. She carried herself pridefully, which I admired and the way she treated her teammates is something I hope I can carry on throughout the rest of my high school seasons. She was always so nice off and on the court and when we needed that extra boost of competitiveness, she was always willing to step up to the plate and she’ll always be someone I admire off and on the court.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

I love how we’re like one big family. We can play and be silly but also be serious with each other, and when it gets tense, we know we’re only trying to make each other better.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take
with you?

I’d go to the Bahamas and take my mom.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you
spend it on?

I’d buy gas, shoes and clothes, a splat toy, and a Christmas gift, and I’d take my mom out to eat.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

For avid, we do a lot of community service around and outside of school.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society,
Student Council or other academic clubs?

I’m in avid short for Advancement Via Individual Determination; I’m in avid because it pushes you to be your best self and gives you that extra stability throughout your high school life.
