Wichita North’s Ilex Hagan – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Old Chicago

By Matt Browning

As a senior, Wichita North girls soccer player Ilex Hagan does not want to take a single second for granted. She understands that the season will be over in a blink of an eye and she wants to soak up every up and down; every win and loss.

“Individually, a successful season for me would be a season where I personally feel that I’ve put everything I have on the field for my team and that I’ve succeeded in leading my team to their full potential,” Hagan said. “As a team I feel the same but of course we want to get as far as possible, so we would love to push for the state tournament with the talent that we have.”

Hagan was an honorable mention all-league selection last season and in order for her to achieve that and more this season, there was an area of her game that she wanted to improve.

“One area I want to improve on this season is my shooting because I don’t shoot much from my position. In the offseason I’ve gone and worked on my shooting and moves leading up to them for about one to two hours a day during the summer,” Hagan said. “I also worked on them during club season in the fall and winter.”

Next year, Hagan will be continuing her soccer career at Hutchinson Community College, where she plans to study athletic training, with a minor in Spanish.
