Evan Benoit of the Wichita East cross country team completed an interview with VYPE to discuss who he is.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My goal is to finish with all A’s and B’s maybe a C, also I want to do decently well on the ACT.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
The most fun I had this year was hanging out with friends on my cross country team, friends in general from other schools, and running with my xc teamates/ friends on long runs.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher was my physics teacher last year, Mr. Garza, he would show up to my xc and track meets last season and he went to my xc meet recently at JK Gold, he is a great teacher to have and a great person to be around!
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory is making to state individually last xc season. After the race I wasn’t sure I made state or not but when I heard my name get called at the very end of the meet when they announce if you make it to state or not I was so happy to hear my name, not just me but three of my other teammates made it! This year though, the whole team is making it.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
The biggest team that has left an impact on me is Kapan Mount Carmal, my freshman year of xc I wasn’t that fast, but I would see kapan did very excellent almost every meet, just seeing them win almost every meet motivated me to get faster, and it definitely did! This summer, I put the most miles in that I ever have and it has for sure helped a lot because I placed 24th at the most recent meet JK Gold and I compete with not just Kapan now, I compete with a lot of the top guys from a lot of the city teams. To this day, I am pretty good friends with a lot of the kapan, carrol kids, etc.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on this team is having great teammates that truly care for the sport and wants to not just get faster, but keep up with all the top runners in the country, world, and just overall educate themselves about the sport. I also want to thank my coach because with him I wouldn’t be where I am right now, I still have so much to go, and have so much to learn from my coach.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
If I can pick any place for a summer vacation I would go to back to Destin Florida, it is very humid there so that makes good training, because humidity place a role like altitude does, the beach there is also beatiful. I would probably want to go to Destin with my mom and a friend.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
If I got 500 dollars I would spend it on shoes, and running gear.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am getting involved with younglife, I have been a Christian for as long as I can remember but I’ve never really been active in activity’s at school about Christianity, this year was different I want to make the best of my year and be involved in clubs, especially if I get to worship and learn my about God.
VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
I am not involved in any academic excellence activities but I finish last year with a 3.8 GPA (unweighted).
