Wichita North’s Katherine Reimer – Team Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

Katherine Reimer, coach of the Wichita North Cross Country team spoke with VYPE to discuss the teams upcoming season. Coach Reimer shared “My favorite part of working with this team is how much they make me laugh. They all show up to practice with so much energy, and they make every day a new experience. They’re always laughing and teasing each other, and it shows how great the friendships on the team are.” As the 2023 season progresses Reimer says “our main goal is to see improvement from the beginning to the end. Seeing athletes make personal records is always exciting. We also have a couple of girls that have a chance of qualifying for state, so we are hoping to make that happen!”

“Our best moment from last year was our meet hosted by Bishop Carroll at the end of September. Everyone was so supportive and excited that day, and we had every single athlete either achieve a personal best or a season best. It was a great day both in running and seeing supportive teammates celebrating each other” said Reimer.

A great example of the teams dynamic as a whole is one of the memories Reimer shared. Recalling “My favorite memory of the team so far has been their support of each other this season. At the second meet, our last runner was finishing his race, and the whole team was out on the course cheering him on. Our team was cheering the loudest and had the most representation out on the course, and it just made my heart very happy to see their support for each and every one of their teammates.”

This also embodies what Reimer said is the biggest impression the team has left on her. Saying “Their encouragement of one another has made me see how much of an impact this can have. Whether it’s an easy run, a workout, or a race, so many of my kids are so great at encouraging their teammates to keep going and push themselves.”
