Wichita Collegiate wide receiver and defensive back Brett Wetta has played football since second grade. Now, as a senior, he believes he still has something to prove.
The senior is a three-year starter and has helped lead the Spartans to an impressive 5-0 record through early October in which they have dominated on both sides of the ball.
Wetta has his fair share of accolades being a four-sport athlete, including becoming a two-state baseball champ and state qualifier in track.
“He is a great teammate,” head coach Troy Black said. “He is very quiet and just goes out each day and gives his best effort.”
Accounting for 212 yards and seven touchdowns on 14 receptions through the first games, Wetta’s speed and big play ability have been a mainstay for new quarterback Hudson Ferralez and the Spartan offense.
“The chemistry between me and Hudson is great because of the time that we spent throwing this summer,” Wetta said.
Wetta’s impact goes deeper than just performing well on the field.
“To be a leader, I have used my four years of experience in the program to help the underclassmen figure out what they are doing, which ends up helping us because they can give us a great scout team,” Wetta said.
The speedster knows that the Spartans will continue their run if he does his job and continues to be a leader.
“I have had the mentality to leave everything on the field since this is my last year of high school football,” Wetta said.
