Wichita North’s Joshua Garcia-Aguilera is a senior midfielder who is one of those players who every coach loves and wants in their program.
“Josh is a great player and an even better person who’s a valuable member of our team,” head coach Curt Wullschleger said. “He is growing up to become a great young man who will contribute to society after graduating from North High, which is the mission of our program. He’s a great example to younger players & I wish we had more kids like him in our program.”
Garcia-Aguilera has been playing soccer since he was in first grade and has so much experience that he has become immune to the pressure now.
“My goal this year personally was to get better as a player but also a person and make it to state,” Garcia-Aguilera said. “It’s my last year, and my buddies that have gone to state say it’s a beautiful experience, so it’s obviously something I want to experience for myself.”
The senior has been seen as the heart and soul of the North soccer team.
“He is a fantastic teammate; he has an infectious laugh that brings the team together,” Wullschleger said. “He’s in charge of bringing the speaker for pre-game music, so he’s one of our hype men. He’s always smiling and laughing, which puts out a positive vibe for our team.”
Being a holding midfielder, the senior is able to get his body and feet on almost any ball that comes in his radius.
“He is a rock-solid player that disrupts the opponent’s attack,” Wullschleger said. “He’s very strong and never gets knocked off of the ball. He distributes creatively with technical precision when he wins that ball.”
