Wichita Northwest’s Jacob King – Athlete Spotlight Presented By AOA Now

By Blake Chadwick

Wichita Northwest has been a powerhouse in the state for a number of years. After three straight years of state championship games, the Grizzlies have been trying to get over the hump.

Coming into the season, the Grizzlies garnered a lot of hype with the likes of a lot of Division One talent on their roster and a lot of experience. Northwest was a class 6A favorite.

Senior Jacob King is a ball hawk who is qualified as an athlete for the Grizzlies, as he is truly doesn’t have a set position in their defense. After accounting for 60 tackles and a first-team all-city season as a junior, King has set his season goals even higher.

“My personal goals are to break the single-game tackle record, and my goal for the team is to win state,” King said.

Through early October, the Grizzlies currently sit at 4-1 after a devastating week four loss against Wichita East that went down to the wire and ultimately led to a Wichita East game-winning touchdown as the clock ran out.

The senior isn’t too worried, though.

“We locked in after the tough loss against East and are hoping to bounce back and be better than ever,” King said.

King has over 200 tackles in his career and attributes it all to his mindset.

“I am a hustler and a hard-working type of player,” King said. “I shut up and get straight to work when asked to because doing my job is number one on my list because I can’t let my team down by not doing it.”
