Wichita North girls wrestler Aariyah Jackson spoke to VYPE in an interview.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals this year are to maintain good grades throughout the breast of the year and to keep working to become the best wrestler I can be.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory was when I placed first in a tournament and was so amazed at how all of my hard work paid off.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
My teammate Nathalia Hernandez has left the biggest impression on me than anyone on the team because she is a captain on the team and leads by example.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on the team is the bonds that are formed between one another. The laughter and the jokes, but when it’s time to focus, they’re always there to support you.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Wrestling has taught me so much, but one thing I use in daily life is self discipline. Wrestling is a sport that is mentally challenging, but once you learn how to work past the obstacles, it’s amazing what you can accomplish.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
The best advice someone has given me is to “live life the way you want to live it.”
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
My dad inspires me because of the stubbornness he has because if he wants something, he’s not gonna stop till he gets it.
