Wichita East baseball player Mikey Birzer told VYPE in a recent interview that “My favorite part of being on the East High Baseball team is participating in team bonding activities. It just brings us together as not only teammates but as a brotherhood”. Birzer then mentioned the teammate that has impacted him the most – Canon Cole. Saying “he’s not only a great ball player but he’s a good friend to have and a good mentor to really look up to”.
As baseball season kicks off Birzer wants “to step up and become a leader for my team and help my teammates grow and develop”. Sharing that “Baseball has really taught me discipline and adversity. It tells me that not everything is going to go your way, you have to work at it. I’ve gone through some ups and downs but i’ve been able to overcome them and focus on what’s next”.
Birzer, who’s favorite memory is pitching a no-hitter during the summer of 2022, also participates in Zero Reasons which is a club that brings awareness to Mental Health and Teen Suicide as well as Kappa League which is a brotherhood group. Explaining, “I participate in this because it teaches me leadership and preparation for college and the next level”.
Despite his diverse memberships Birzer has been most inspired by his grandfather. Telling VYPE “My grandpa inspires me because one lesson he taught me was to stay strong and never give up”.
