Wichita North’s Lissette Tovar – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by Caleb Hanke – State Farm

By Ken Hansard

Wichita North High’s Lissette Tovar fell in love with soccer when she was four years old, and she has never looked back. Tovar, a mid-fielder for the Red Hawks ladies’ soccer team, is now a senior and is ready to shoulder the responsibility that being a veteran entails:  “My role on the team, as a senior and a captain, is to help lead the other girls by example. I’m really looking forward to playing with all the amazing girls on the team.”

Tovar is looking forward to the North Cup and an opportunity to host a tournament that many area players mention as a premiere event: “I feel like it’s always an exciting tournament.

In the off-season, Lissette worked on many things to help improve her game.  “I feel like my first touch was something I really wanted to improve on, so during my club season, that was my main focus. I would practice juggling and bringing the ball down.”

Tovar believes she has good reason to be excited about the Red Hawks’ prospects, “As a team I feel like we have a lot of strong players on the team and all understand their roles on the field.”

Tovar has many other pursuits besides soccer.  She is also a member of North High’s Avid program, the BioMed program, and she is a registered member of the prestigious National Honors Society.

While Lissette currently is focusing on the present, and in particular finishing out her high school soccer career and then graduating, she has taken time to map out her future.  Tovar has plans to attend Hesston collage in the fall to play soccer.  She will be studying Pre-Medicine.
