Wichita North High soccer player Anahi Ibarra-Arevalo, a senior who some might remember as a Northwest Grizzly from past seasons, is now showcasing her considerable talents with the cross town Red Hawks. When asked about the adjustment, Anahi says, “It’s going great. I love the new environment. The teachers are amazing, and I have really enjoyed making new memories and connections with my new teammates.”
The teammates and geography may have changed for Ibarra-Arevalo, but as a senior, she knows what part she needs to play for her team to be successful: “My role on the team is to be a leader – a teammate that others are able to go to when needed, and one who can help the team by knocking some balls into the net!”
Anahi would obviously like to improve her game and move forward statistically, but her real goals seem to be geared towards success in life: “Balancing school, work, and soccer can sometimes be a challenge for me. A weakness that I worked on over the off-season was learning how to stay disciplined. I worked on completing my workouts even when I wasn’t feeling the motivation.”
Ibarra-Arevalo is still striving for greatness with her new group of teammates: “As of right now, our record is 4-4. I think that we have a great set of girls on the team and know that we can play with anyone.”
Anahi plans to play soccer for Friends University and expects to major in Elementary Education.
