Q&A with Wichita East’s Caitlin Homan – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Emprise Bank

Caitlin Homan recently completed an interview with VYPE to discuss who she is.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goal for this year is to honestly just push myself to my full potential in both sports and academics. I really need to tune out the things that are holding me back and stop worrying about little things that won’t matter 5+ years from now.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I’ve had in the last year was when I went on my first float trip this summer with my friend Jaidynee, her friend Avery and family. We were all so tired and burnt out afterwards but it was worth it for sure.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

To pick a FAVORITE teacher is really tough because I have been lucky enough to have some really great teachers over the years. Just to name a few; Mr. Moore my 3rd grade teacher, Mr. Gott my 4th grade teacher and Mrs. VanHorn my math teacher in the PreIB program at Robinson for 7/8th grade. Now especially in the last year, Mrs. Scheffler my sophomore history teacher has been a big influence since I been in high school.  Mrs. Scheffler had such a momma bear attitude towards her students. The chats with the class at the beginning of every period will never be forgotten.  These teachers probably don’t even realize the impact they have each made on me and how they’ve stuck with me over the years.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Making varsity my freshman year was definitely a monumental moment in my athletic career. It boosted my confidence and put me through great experience. Knowing that not a lot of freshman can say they made varsity was pretty cool.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

A player and former teammate that had the biggest impact on me was Jaidynee Vontress. She graduated last year and is playing at Hutchinson community college.  She took me under her wing being an upper classman and she was always supporting me and helping me to become a better player, even now we are still very close.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

I would say my favorite part of being on the team, especially this year, is the connection of our team. The more you get along with your teammates, the more you’ll be able to connect and play well together on the court. Regardless of trying to be the best team out there I know we’re going to have a lot of fun this year.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

For a summer vacation I’d honestly just go anywhere with my little sister, my mom, and my mom’s bestfriend which I refer to as my Auntie Nicole:) Us four do a lot together and it’s never a dull moment when we have our girls nights. We usually take an annual summer trip anyways like this summer we went to Destin, Florida  and it was so much fun!

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

If I had 24 hours to spend $500, in all honesty I would probably spend it on some dunks bc I have a slight shoe fetish.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

Sadly, I’m not involved in any clubs or activities in school this year, but I plan on possibly joining spanish club bc I’m set to take the school trip to madrid Spain over spring break. I do wish I had gotten more involved in things like STUCO but I had so much going on outside of school with trainings and practices for club volleyball that it didn’t allow me to set aside the extra time that I wish I could have.
