Wichita Southeast athlete Emma McCormick completed an interview with VYPE where she spoke about who she is.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My goals this year for cross-country are to improve my PR times and also to help improve the Southeast Team spirit. Our team has really grown this year and we have a lot of potential.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
I have had so much fun over the past year! I got to to go to State for Cross-Country, I set the school cross-country record, I traveled with the Girl Scouts to Belize, and I got my first job lifeguarding with the City.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
I have had so many great teachers! I love Mrs. Dold, my 9th grade English teacher because she cares so much about her students and I felt like I can talk to her about anything. And special shoutouts to my Price-Harris teachers and Coleman teachers!
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
I love when we get to swim after our running practice! It is nice to cool down and brings the team together.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Maleah has left the biggest impression on me. She is always supportive and she has worked so hard over year. She has become a great friend and teammate.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
I love this team because we can be ourselves around each other. We support and care about each other.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
Jamaica and I would take Maleah and Candace.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would save it and put it towards a car! Or I might spend it all and buy shoes.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
Yes. I pick up trash, volunteer for AVID. I have also volunteered with ShowerUp, and Price-Harris.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am involved in Girl Scouts and specifically a specialized troop for Travel. Being part of this troop has allowed me to participate in many activities like camping, volunteering, and even travel to Belize! Our next trip planned is to London, Paris, and Switzerland. I am also a member of our Southeast Marching Band, I play the saxophone and we have so much fun together.
