Wichita East cross country runner Ryan Son in a recent interview with VYPE shared “I have several personal goals for this year as it’s my last cross country season in high school. Some include a top finish at the state meet and also to perform well at Nike Cross Regionals after the season. However, as a team I think we have an opportunity to do some pretty special things at the state level and cannot wait to see what we can do.”
“My favorite part about being on this team is getting to see everyone push each other. Whether that is an easy group run or a workout, I love seeing my teammates stick with one another and find something more within them to keep going” Son said.
Among all of the time Son has devoted to his team his favorite has been “the first meet of the 2023 track season at the Southeast Invitational. It was just a really great opening meet and I had a lot of my friends and family there to support me. It was maybe one of the first times I could hear my friends cheering clearly during the race and it just made me really happy. I had a great time and was happy with how everything went.”
When he isn’t running cross country races Son participates in multiple clubs at East High including Science Olympiad, Business Professionals of America, DECA, Scholars Bowl, and Spanish Club. Saying “These are all just clubs that I have interest in and have been apart of for a few years. I love to compete in these clubs and have learned a lot of valuable lessons through them.”
