Wichita West head football coach Jeremy Moss has nothing but glowing remarks about his junior linebacker Mencali En. “Mencali is a good football player but a better young man,” Moss said. “He’s a 4.0 student and leader of our defense. He is looking to have a breakout junior campaign.” Last season, En racked up 80 tackles with two sacks and an interception.
Football has been a seven day adventure for En this summer. Between camps and individual work, En is out to fulfill his coach’s expectation in 2023. “This off season I’ve been going to summer conditioning, attended two Sharp Performance camps, one K-State camp and one Pitt State camp,” En said. “On the weekends I’d go to the field and work on some crafts including footwork, tackling, pass drops and reading keys.” En is focused on reading and reacting this season and he looked at the highest level of football for insight. “This year I want to improve on my key reads because they help you get to the ball faster,” En said.
“Things I’ve been doing to improve is practicing with teammates and watching NFL film breaks downs.” Basic goals are all En is focused on this season, not specific statistics or accolades. “My individual goals this year are to show growth from my sophomore year,” En said. “My team goals would be to dominate the details and play as a team on offense, defense and special teams.”
