Kamar Hewitt, a soccer athlete at Wichita Southeast High School, was an all-league honorable mention player last season. This year, Hewitt is hoping to continue those successes with his team leading into the postseason.
“During these last couple of games I want to continue to grow my confidence so that I can be the best version of myself,” Hewitt said. “I am just a “don’t let the other team score” type of player. I do my best to win the ball back and get the ball up to one of my teammates.”
While history had been repeated for three years in a row, this year it was broken, and it was one of Hewitt’s favorite memories.
“My most memorable moment of the season would definitely have to be when we beat Kapaun two to one,” Hewitt said. “For the past three years we have lost every time. It was also one of the most intense games of the season so far. The team played with a lot of passion and even when we got tired we still stayed strong and continued to battle. If we play like we did against cape and we could potentially go to state.”
Hewitt’s goals for the season go beyond just his achievements, as he hopes to help lead his team as far as possible into the bracket.
“This season I hope to make second team all-city for defense,” Hewitt said. “I believe that it is the level that I have been playing at so far and that it is 100 percent achievable. I hope to win our last couple of games to help us get a better seeding at regionals. If we do get a better seed, I think we have the ability to win at least two of those games, maybe more depending on if we play with the energy and passion.”
