Wichita Trinity head football coach Trey Black called Rachel Amey the backbone of the Knights football program.
“She leads our managers, she keeps our locker room and storage room pristine,” Black said. “She also stays on top of practice needs, films practice, and organizes and sets up team meals. Rachel is the heart and souls of the Trinity football program.”
Amey, who is a senior at Trinity, said she was honored to be nominated for the Via Christi Behind the Scenes profile.
“I am beyond honored to be nominated, as sometimes I feel like my position is not as useful as I want it to be,” Amey said. “It means the world to me to know that others appreciate my work, even though sometimes it’s behind the scenes. I love being helpful, so it is awesome to hear that I am an asset.”
The Knights starting quarterback, Harvey Zimmerman, and his family played a significant part in getting Amey to manage. Zimmerman and Amey have been good friends for 15 years.
“I am close to his mother, and she reached out to me to help manage because I love football, as well as many of the boys,” Amey said.
Friday nights for Amey are jammed packed and busy with a variety of tasks like preparation before the game and cleaning up after.
“A football game can end up being a seven to eight hour experience for me, but I love it,” Amey said. “While a Friday night is hectic, I enjoy doing it because it directly helps the boys who play, and I love the sport of football.”
