Wichita South athlete Ramya Kennedy told VYPE in a recent interview “one personal goal for me is to grow as a leader on and off the court. Another is for me to play at state and for my team to be the state champions”.
“My favorite part about being on this team is watching my younger sister A’nya Kennedy continuously get better. Another part is reuniting and playing with two of my lifelong friends that I grew up with, N’Ascents Robinson and Da’Naysia Smith. I also love how great the energy is everyday in practice and showing that support for one another on the court everyday” said Kennedy.
Playing basketball has taught her “better communication skills and leadership skills” with she uses away from the court as well. Kennedy not only volunteers at her church “Heart of Christ” where she “participates in multiple community service activities and also helps out around the church” she is also “in AVID and on our schools Senior Leadership Council”. Sharing “I joined Avid to try and gain better organizational skills and prepare myself for college. I was accepted to be on our Senior Leadership Council, trying to bring back our schools spirit and to keep students engaged”.
Kennedy draws inspiration from “many different figures in my life, but the person who inspires me the most is my older sister, because of her work ethic and how blunt and honest she is. She pushes me every day to succeed and raise any bar she has set in place for our siblings”.
She also mentioned that “I would like to thank god for my ability to play the game and for everything he’s blessed me with. Next, I want to thank my trainer and family friend T’Allen Smith with KYD basketball. I would also like to shout out my Family, you guys are my support system and the reason I push myself to get better everyday. And lastly, I would like to thank my coaching staff at Wichita South and the school staff as a whole for supporting my team and I along our journey”.
