Wichita Northwest girls basketball player McKenzie Edwards told VYPE in a recent interview “my main personal goal is to walk across the stage at graduations I can tell everyone, including myself, that I did it. That would be an accomplishment I know some people don’t get to experience”.
Another experience Edwards if grateful for is playing alongside her fellow Lady Grizzlies. One of which has left quite the impression on her. Edwards expressed that her teammate “Sasha made the biggest impression because she’s a student first and an athlete second. She’s a good friend and someone I know is going to be there for others on and off the court”. However, Edwards’ “favorite part about being on the team is having a connection with all of my teammates and being able to do something I love.”
Edwards shared that “basketball has taught me to have patience, to use teamwork, and to know that life is a constant learning process. It’s been the best advice anyone has ever given me because it has helped me not to rush because rushing things can ruin the outcome”.
She has also learned a lot from her father who she stated ” inspires me the most because he’s the reason why I’ve been able to make it this far. He believed I could play at 6 years old and here I am now – still going”. Edwards also took a moment to give a shout out to both her parents with the following sentiment – “I would like to thank my parents for always being there and showing up for me. I know I have their support even if I don’t have anyone else”.
