Wichita Heights’ Jackson Ellison – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by State Farm’s Caleb Hanke

Wichita Heights baseball player Jackson Ellison told VYPE in a recent interview that “I love being on this team because of the way that we come together during the season and the relationships that have formed because of it. I have met some of my best friends because of this team”. Further explaining, “my sport has taught me to learn from my mistakes. In baseball, if you succeed 3 out of 10 times you are considered elite. It is very easy to try to be a perfectionist and be miserable when something doesn’t go your way. If you learn to learn from your mistakes instead of just getting angry at those things, you will not only be happier but grow from those same mistakes”.

Currently, Ellison is working “to only worry about the things that I can control. As a team my goal is to win our regional and ultimately go on and win a state championship”. Saying that “the best advice I have ever gotten was to only worry about the things that you can control. If you start to worry about things that you cannot control you will never be satisfied. If you don’t like something that is in your control then make a change and fix it”.

Helping to keep him motivated is “my dad who has always been my biggest inspiration and continues to be to this day. He has always wanted me to become the best baseball player I can be but more importantly the best human being I can be. We have a very similar body type and to see the success that he had in baseball gives me a sense of hope and that keeps me confident in my ability and confidence going forward to go as far as I can in the game of baseball”.
