Mia Young of Wichita East was a second team all-league midfielder last season, but there was one part to her game she felt like needed to take a step forward this season.
“This season I hope to improve my confidence going one on one against other players and taking more shots, as my dad always reminds me I don’t do enough of,” Young said. “I’ve been training at the Ultimate Soccer Academy throughout the winter and it has definitely improved my touch and confidence on the ball overall, and also have been playing indoor with my club team, Wichita United FC Select.”
Much like every other high school season, Young has been trying to get a feel for her teammates and what they can bring to the table.
“High school season is always hard because you get a new team every year,” Young said. “With some girls graduating and new girls coming in, adjusting to new teams can be tricky but I always enjoy getting to know new people that I don’t see around school as often and seeing the girls who I have gotten to play with for a couple years.”
Young plans to continue her soccer career next year at Greensboro College in North Carolina on a full academic scholarship.
