Wichita South’s Iris Nunez has been a standout player for the Titans, and only a sophomore, she still has a lot to prove.
“I started running a lot more before the season started, I knew I had to get faster and better than last year if I really wanted to do something,” Nunez said. “One of my weaknesses that I am really focused on right now is shooting with my left foot. It is very challenging, but I will keep pushing until I get where I want to be.”
With a list of goals heading into the season, Nunez can already mark one off the list, and is focused on accomplishing the rest.
“My first ever goal coming into this new season was scoring more goals than I did last year,” Nunez said. “I’m glad to say I completed that but now a really big goal is to actually get noticed by people and try to become something big in the future.”
While getting to show off her skills on the field, Nunez also has skills on stage as well.
“I also play in South High’s Pep Band and Marching Band,” Nunez said. “I have been playing the clarinet for about five years now and that is something I also enjoy doing.”
With two more years to go, Nunez hopes to continue growing as a student and athlete.
“As of right now I applied for a welding class with the WSU Jumpstart Program that will start my junior year,” Nunez said. “After high school I plan on getting an accounting and welding degree.”
