Southeast’s Katie Moore – Athlete Of The Month Presented By Shelter Insurance, Tommy Leach

By Hayden Swope

The Southeast girls’ soccer team brought back Captain Katie Moore this year. Moore has played a big part in Buffalo’s winning season.

“This year has definitely been one of the most memorable seasons,” Moore said. “We finished the year 9-6-1, the best record since I have played on the team. In years past, we struggled to obtain three wins, but with our newcomers, and team chemistry, we made a lot of improvement. Being connected as a team on and off field has always been a priority to me. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other with games, food, and water balloon fights, but also with pushing each other at practice and cheering each other on.”

Moore had goals set up for herself and her team this year and worked and trained throughout the season to grow as a player.

“My coach’s biggest goal for the team this year was possession,” Moore said. “By making a ‘Passes Completed-to-Turnover’ ratio based on film, I was able to see where I needed to improve most. I focused this season on getting my head up, finding a pass, and making plays. I met these goals while also improving my communication and field vision. I also found more confidence on the attack and took more shots on goal than I have in past seasons. I hope to continue to improve on all of this, as well as my stamina and touch in the next year.”

Besides her talent on the field, Moore is also involved in the choirs and clubs at Southeast.

“My second passion is music,” Moore said. “I sing in two of Southeast’s top auditioned choirs: Concert Choir and Madrigals. I am also Vice President of a club I helped start this year, the Medical Club.”
