Wichita East’s Gabriel Williams – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Old Chicago

By Matt Browning

Wichita East’s Gabriel Williams understands hard work and dedication pay off, even though it might take some significant time for the results.

Williams has recorded a personal record twice this season.

“This season, I have really improved on trusting the process,” Williams said. “I believe many times we want things to come over night, but for success especially in track and field it is a process. The process may seem bleak at times, but at the end of it, the reward is always so great. My season has gone pretty well this year, I wouldn’t say I’m pleased because I always feel there is more for me to accomplish. I feel there always more for me to strive for.”

Early in the season, Williams injured his hamstring and he will forever remember how his team reacted to it.

“A memory that stands out to me from this season is when earlier in the season I had endured a hamstring injury,” Williams said. “My sprint coach, the head coach, and my teammates really rallied around me to offer treatments that would be best for me.”

Williams is going to continue is his academic and athletic career next year, with big aspirations for the future.

“My major will be Broadcast Journalism with a minor in political science,” Williams said. “I dream of becoming a news anchor, and even one day having my own political analysis show in Washington, DC.”
